  • Assignment: apply these elements to your capstone presentation

OPTION 1: INQUIRY/RESEARCH CAPSTONE: For students who want to further explore, research or gain knowledge (Inquiry Question & Focus).  This could be a topic connected to your career choices

  • Example: Recent advancements in treatment of spinal cord injury (if you are looking at medicine, physio, research, robotics...)
  • Example: The environmental effects of fast fashion (studies related to the environment, business, etc)

OPTION 2: CONNECT & COLLABORATE CAPSTONE: Work with a MENTOR to learn about future career interests

  • Example: Working with a tradesperson, learning from them, developing a snap shot of your life in that career

OPTION 3: EVENT/SERVICE CAPSTONE: For students with an interest in making a positive contribution to their community or in an area they are passionate about

  • Example: coaching a team or leading a club, heading up a fundraising event, etc.
  • Example: volunteer for an organization and leave a legacy , ie work with Little Mittens and create a plan for fund raising?

OPTION 4: PROJECT BASED CAPSTONE: For students who wish to express their passion and interest through a physical project

  • Example: Build something – wood, metal, mechanics, technology - great if you are interested in a trade / technology future.  
  • Example: become an expert at EXCEL and create your own budgeting spreadsheets(future bookkeepers, accountants…)
  • Example: Write and produce a theatrical piece through your drama club  (MENTOR!)
  • Example: Develop or learn a new musical piece, learn to play a new instrument, etc
  • Example: Create a series of art pieces, work with a mentor to have your own art show

OPTION 5: PERSONAL STORY CAPSTONE: For students wishing to develop and showcase Personal awareness competencies.  Reflect on and share a meaningful life-changing event/experience (i.e. extraordinary life experiences, immigration, etc.). This autobiographical process is narrated from the student author’s perspective and includes four stages: identify purpose and intent, plan and design, create and review, and present their personal story.  This should connect your culture and personal identity to your life skills.

  • Example: Work with an Elder to create a cookbook that reflects your families heritage and history.   Work with an elder to create a scrap book documenting your personal history.

OPTION 6: CAREER/ENTREPRENEUR CAPSTONE: For students with an entrepreneurial interest who are looking into a personal business after graduation

  • Example: Research and create a business plan, work with the bank,  develop a small business  (if this is your interest !)  landscaping ? Personalized computer services for seniors, developing a tutoring program for students, etc.
